Who We Are

Darryl T. Saunders

Aylesbury Preservation was founded by Darryl T. Saunders, who brings over a decade of experience in historic preservation. Widely recognized as one of the preeminent authorities on late-18th- and 19th-century American architecture, Mr. Saunders has published numerous articles on architectural history and is the author of the forthcoming book Improvements in the Taste and Science of Architecture: Northern Architects and Builders in the Mid-South, 1800–1840.

He has served on several preservation-related boards, including the Lower Garden District Association, and was recently a Commissioner for Historic Properties in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Mr. Saunders’ career and personal interests are deeply intertwined: when not engaged in hands-on restoration work, he is visiting and documenting historic American structures, which he shares with a wide audience through his popular Instagram account, The Federal Tour.
